Dedicated to serving children

Picture
The Elgin Golden K Kiwanis is part of Kiwanis International, a global organization of members dedicated to serving the children of the world. We meet every Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. in the basement of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 357 Division St. In Elgin, Illinois.

We serve coffee and doughnuts and we welcome anyone in the area to stop in and join us.  We offer stimulating conversation, a few laughs, a featured speaker and the opportunity to volunteer in the community on many worthwhile projects.

Kiwanis and its family of clubs, including the Elgin Golden K Kiwanis Club, is 600,000 members strong, annually raising more than 100 million dollars and dedicating more than 18 million volunteer hours world wide to strengthen communities and serve children. Our club's first meeting was held in November of 1975. Learn more about our projects.

The world headquarters is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. For many years the main office was in Chicago. The very first Kiwanis meeting was held in Detroit Michigan in 1915.

What's in a name?

The name Kiwanis was coined from an expression in the language of an American Indian tribe from Michigan,”Nunce Kee-wanis” which translates to “we trade” or “we share our talents.” The motto of Kiwanis International is “Serving the Children of the World.”

To that end, Kiwanis International has formed the world wide Eliminate Project, raising millions of dollars to eradicate Maternal Neonatal Tetanus.
